Have you ever wondered why Tromsø is called the Paris of the North? And what is it, that makes this place so special? Join our Historical City Walk to discover the secrets of the City of Tromsø and its century long history!
On this tour, we cover the area of Tromsø within the original borders of 1794, from Strandtorget in the south, to Skansen in the north. Already before the city was formally established, there has been centuries of human activity in this area. Especially the last 220 years made Tromsø to what it is today.
In addition to a wealth of historical sites, we will also encounter statues, busts and murals, telling stories of people who crafted their destiny in the Arctic. Tromsø has been significant for the biographies of world-famous characters such as Roald Amundsen, as well as local heroes such as Wanny Woldstad and Henry Rudi.
A visit to one museum which brings their stories even closer to us, is included in the tour, and we will finish at one of the oldest and most authentic bars in town, which reflects the maritime heritage of our city. We might even see a polar bear, or two. But don’t worry, they won’t be hungry – in fact, they are quite stuffed.
Advance booking is recommended, as this tour is strictly limited to
a maximum of 15 participants. This is not mass tourism!
